I want to respond to Elena. I've been on the diet 30 days now and have lost 21 pounds. But it hasn't been easy, and I'm gearing up for maintanence. But during this journey I'm finding that my Christian faith is helping me so much with cravings, especially when I'm around people who are eating lots of yummy food. I had a tough moment that turned out wonderfully; we had company and everyone was eating this great food, and I was "slaving" over my George Forman, grilling a scant bit of limp shrimp, which I had on dry, green lettuce. (I don't like the Stevia products for salads and things, so I stick with "boring," but now with a smile.) Anyway, as my eyes were glued to the grill instead of the people chowing down, I cried out to God in my heart and asked Him to help me get through the meal without being miserable. And He touched my heart by letting me know to focus on the people (and Him), and not on the food. Since then I haven't had a problem. I'm sure there are similar dificulties ahead, but that's when I'll have to lean on Jesus (Yeshua in Hebrew) again. If this comment at all resonates with you, may I suggest the book, Made to Crave by Lysa Terkeurst. It brings the "dieter" or "maintainer" on a
healthy-weight journey from a spiritual perspective. It's filled with Biblical principles and Scripture.

Hey Robin,
I live in Fort Lauderdale and am about to start this program. Do you have any suggestions and/or pointers to help me in the journey I'm about to take? I'm actually going through a clinic and using a coach to help me; at least through this first round. Ultimately I hope to lose over 75 pounds. Any and all suggestions would be welcome! I will definately document my journey; probably every day!

Hi Elena -- Gee, I hope I caught you before you've given up! And I hope you didn't work so hard just to gain it back. So if you've been eating, stop now! But seriously, here's a few things to look at. First, If you're gaining weight on maintenance, you're either eating too much or eating something you shouldn't be. No starch and no sugar means just that, but for the first three weeks after the HcG you need to be extra strict with yourself. The no carb diet is designed to make you fuller faster and longer. I like to start the day with a big egg, cheese and bacon omelette with some melon or berries. Lunch should still be a salad or vegetable with protein, and dinner as well. During those three weeks I don't eat melba toast or breadsticks or starchy veggies like peas or beans the first few weeks, and melon or berries are the best fruits. Continue to drink lots of water and tea. After three weeks you should be back to where you were when you finished the hcg, more or less.

Second, are you exercising? Now you can and should go back to it. Walking 45 minutes a day is really important, and you can start doing a little weight-bearing stuff if you like that. Whatever you do, keep active -- and away from the kitchen. I find that water or tea often helps, as when we think we're hungry we're really just thirsty.

Finally -- and here's the hard part -- you cannot go back to your old way of eating and expect to stay thin. The original doctor that I went to told me that he ate "whatever he wanted" after his HcG, but he was not a real eater to begin with. He was slim and got slimmer. In the real world of people like you and me who love to eat, it's a lifelong journey.

So stick with it, and maybe you want to join a diet group or Overeaters Anonymous so you can learn and practice healthy eating. Buy a book or look online for tips and tricks and recipes that keep you slim, strong and healthy. Get rid of your "fat clothes" , buy a few new pieces that show off your new bod, and, if the weight starts to come back on, do another short round of HcG to catch it before it all comes back.

Good luck, and keep us posted!
Best,
Robin

Hey:

I lost weight on the program but maintenance is not going well. I gained three pounds in one day and the steak day only lost 1 pound. I am worried. Have I lost all this weight only to put it all back on?

Hey Lisa -- Good for you. I too find myself hungry, especially after the first round, but just drinking more water and lots of tea.

So I'm approaching two years, and still a perfect size ten, so I'm happy, but I've got to admit, keeping the weight off is not as easy as it felt at the beginning. But I love how I look so I stick with it. The way I eat is completely different. I no longer crave or eat bread unless it's super delicious and special. I can eat one cookie instead of a whole box. If I feel like pigging out, I'll eat two. I make better choices. And I always remember that nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.

I have done drops and shots, and I prefer the shots. They feel stronger and only has to be done once a day. But it all works. Keep up the good work! I will post more pictures soon. Thanks! Robin
